5.52km
Ok, logging runs on the treadmill at lunch is going to get awfully boring for the reader, so if anyone actually reads this, sorry for the boring read, but life is getting in the way of my blogging, damn it and and i just have little time to be descriptive about what amounts to forced daily exercise. Because, let me tell you, I will take the worst run outside any day over 30 minutes of running as fast as I can on a treadmill to try to condense as much distance as humanly possible into my brief lunch break! That said, today's results- 1,5km on a elliptical because both crappy treadmills were being used and then I got on a treadmill which turns out hows everything in miles.Since I have no clue how fast or far I should run in miles, and smoke was coming from my ears calculating the 1,63km/mi conversion, I gave up and just ran as fast as I could handle after an attack on the elliptical machine for 9 minutes, so I came to 2,5 miles in 22:30. Not really sure the elliptical "distance" counts, but I gave it all I had despite not wanting to be there in the first place. Although the elliptical faces a window vs. a mirror, so I could people watch, which was a lot better than watching my winter white body running in place. Ok, enough- 2,5 miles is 4.02km. Hm. that is almost respectable for 22 1/2 minutes. (For me). Good stuff. So I will add my 1,5km on the elliptical for a a grand total of 5,52.

9,8 + 3,6
Sunday ran the 9,8km outside in the snow. I think paint dries faster than I run on snow and ice. Today I could only squeeze in 3,6km on the treadmill during lunch, but better than nothing!

5,52km
Just a noon treadmill run. :) I almost wanted to wear my Garmin Forerunner before I realized A) I am inside and the GPS will not pick up and b) those would some boring stats. I guess I could see my heart rate and speed... maybe I will give it a shot next week.

5,62km +1,5
I finally realized that 5am runs were not going to happen every day, so I joined a gym for a bargain basement cost to go during work hours, M-F. So basically this means I have to squeeze in as many kilometers as possible during the shortest time possible. So currently my plan is to run like my feet are on fire for 30 minutes, so that I can somewhat respectably leave and get back to work in about an hour. Today was my first attempt and I got to 5.62 in 30 min. Not bad since my average run outdoors has been about 9.5km/hr lately. I used to run faster when I trained on a treadmill, but outdoor only training has slowed me down. It's nice to know I still have it in me to run faster!
+1,5 is because I am counting a mad dash I had to make to the bus in about 15 minutes through downtown traffic and lights after a work-related event.

A dark 8.02km
So a week into being back at work full time, I have come to the realization that running has to be done in the very early morning. So last night I laid everything out for morning running and went to sleep, really not knowing whether that 5am run would happen or not. I never made it to sleeping until the alarm because I kept waking up and checking the clock to see how much time I had until 5:00. Finally at 4:52 I decided that I can just take my jogging clothes with me to work and run at lunch and somehow get by. At 4:54 I reconsidered and sleeping put on my clothes and went for a run. At the end of my short, 150m dead end street I had two options- go for my regular 9km lap to the left or head right and run around my subdivision. To the left was pitch blackness and to the right was my dinky subdivision, all 6 streets or so in some light from street lamps. While the more boring choice, I did choose the right and did 3 laps around the subdivision (5km) until I could not take the laps anymore and headed into the darkness 2km to the kindergarten down the road. Once I was completely away from the streetlamps it was actually quite nice and calming. The snow gave off enough reflection from the moon to make it possible to see around me and a light farther away gave me a certain comfort as well. Once I got near the kindergarten a snow man came out of nowhere and I scared myself, but pounded on until I got back home 56 minutes later for a total of 8.02km. 8km in 56min? Yes- quite slow on the ice and snow covered roads, but 5am in the dark on ice is not the place I am going to set any records. Maybe tomorrow morning if motivation holds I will go straight into the darkness for my standard 9km lap in almost complete darkness. I almost wish I had some cross-country skis.

New year, starting from 0
So here it is a new year and the time I thought logging my 1000km a year would become easier. But the life got in the way, I returned to work, and surprise, surprise, getting in a daily run has become much more difficult. So, next week I will try for a few 5am wake ups to get in a few km so that my January is not shot. I have not woken up at 5am in years (excluding to take care of some screaming child and return to bed)! I can only claim about 23km for this year, so my first short term challenges are getting back to regular running after the holiday season and getting some sort of ticker on this site to see if i get to my 1000km in 2012! Happy new year!
